With almost constant drizzle and cloud, it didn't feel very summery today, and the selection of birds reminded us that, for some species at least, it isn't! A small spread of migrants on land today was highlighted by a male Cuckoo, with seven Starlings, five Collared Doves and a single Lesser Redpoll in support. Also, a fantastic count of 43 Choughs, our highest of the year, had to have included a few wandering over from the mainland.

Overhead a strong passage of 63 Swifts were logged heading south, alongside a single Sand Martin. Meanwhile wader numbers continued to build, with 19 Curlews present today and Redshanks increasing to five. Two Whimbrels and two Common Sandpipers remained from previous days.

Out to sea a brilliant count of 3418 Manx Shearwaters was made, with 62 Puffins and 34 Common Scoters the other reward for seawatchers perseverance. And on a more summery theme, a Whitethroat was observed with a faecal sac in the Wetlands, with several Sedge Warbler pairs now feeding young.
